{"id":5258,"date":"2021-06-21T11:37:33","date_gmt":"2021-06-21T06:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nuawoman.com\/blog\/?p=5258"},"modified":"2022-09-07T17:34:01","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T12:04:01","slug":"how-yoga-helped-me-with-pms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nuawoman.com\/blog\/how-yoga-helped-me-with-pms\/","title":{"rendered":"How Yoga helped me with PMS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">If there\u2019s one relationship that we put our faith in, it is the soothing relationship between Yoga and <a href=\"https:\/\/nuawoman.com\/blog\/category\/menstruation\/periods-and-pms\/\" class=\"ek-link\">PMS<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Whether you are a new reader on this blog or you are one of our old friends, you will know that we believe in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nuawoman.com\/blog\/3-yoga-exercises-to-relieve-menstrual-cramps\/\" class=\"ek-link\">power of Yoga.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">In the past and even now, we have talked to several experts about the <a href=\"https:\/\/nuawoman.com\/blog\/3-yoga-exercises-to-relieve-menstrual-cramps\/\">benefits of Yoga during periods<\/a>. We have also discussed in detail about the effects of <a href=\"https:\/\/nuawoman.com\/blog\/yoga-for-cramps-and-pms\/\">Yoga on period cramps<\/a>. This International Day of Yoga seemed like another excellent opportunity to continue the conversation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">This time, as a part of the journey, we spoke with one of our community members, Nikita, to understand her experience of Yoga and PMS.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-read-on-to-find-out-more\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Read on to find out more.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>I got my first period when I was 12 and ever since I have struggled with severe menstrual cramps along with mood swings. Painkillers were my only way to get through cramps.&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">When the pandemic started, I decided to switch to Yoga since I could not continue with my other regular fitness activities. Soon I realized that Yoga is much more than just a daily dose of exercise.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>It is a holistic practice.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">During this journey I learned how stretches can help in reducing PMS to a great extent. My<a href=\"https:\/\/nuawoman.com\/heat-patch-cramp-comfort.html\" class=\"ek-link\"> menstrual cramps <\/a>and fatigue have reduced significantly since I started practicing these postures. I also listen to some soothing music while practicing to put myself really in that state of mind where I can unwind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Yoga and music<\/mark>, when you put them together, not only <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">calm your mind and help you focus better but also lift your mood.<\/mark><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">So, now I can manage my cramps with just a<a href=\"https:\/\/nuawoman.com\/blog\/5-reasons-why-you-should-use-nuas-cramp-comfort\/\"> heat patch <\/a>and no painkillers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-here-are-some-postures-which-help-me-overcome-pms\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Here are some postures which help me overcome PMS:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.nuawoman.com\/blog\/1.+Bound+angle+pose.jpeg\" alt=\"Bound Angle Yoga pose for PMS\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Bound Angle pose <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>(Baddha konasana<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Sit with your knees bent. Pull your heels towards your pelvis, then drop your knees out to the sides. Press the soles of your feet together.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.nuawoman.com\/blog\/2.+Crescent+lunge.jpeg\" alt=\"Crescent Lunge (Anjaneyasana) Yoga pose for PMS\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Crescent Lunge (Anjaneyasana)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Start with the downward-facing-dog. Put your right foot forward between your palms and place your knee in line with your ankle. Inhale and slowly raise your hands overhead. Your arms should cover the ears. Turn the palms to face one another and look up at your fingertips.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.nuawoman.com\/blog\/3.+Cow+faced+pose.jpeg\" alt=\"Cow face pose (Gomukhasana) Yoga Pose for PMS\n\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Cow face pose (Gomukhasana)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Sit erect and fold your right leg over your left thigh.&nbsp; Stack your knees one on top of the other. Fold your left arm and place it behind your back. Then take your right arm over your right shoulder and stretch it till you touch your left hand. Fold your right knee and extend your left leg behind. Stretch your right arm above your head and try clasping your left palm. They should appear wider than your torso. Carefully reach down to the heel, one hand at a time. Hold onto your heels tightly and press your hips forward lifting your chest upwards.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">On periods or not, the benefits of Yoga are endless. Whether it is an expert or a real person\u2019s personal experience, we have always learned that Yoga is a good habit!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">And when you add some music to it, the experience is complete.
