Period symptoms or PMS are unique for each woman. Along with bloating, fatigue and breast tenderness, there are some of us who might also experience headaches. Period headaches or, in a few extreme cases, menstrual migraines, is yet another symptom caused due to the changing levels of hormones like oestrogen and progesterone.
Period headaches and menstrual migraines, though caused by the same reasons, are not similar. If anyone experiences migraines on a regular basis, chances are they are more susceptible to menstrual migraines than someone who doesn’t experience them at all.*
(Note: If you are experiencing menstrual migraines we strongly suggest that you speak with your doctor who can provide you with the suitable way to get relief.)
When we experience period headaches, we feel dizzy and our vision gets blurry. Our heads throb and as a result we feel too exhausted to do anything at all.
Don’t worry, it’s okay! A lot of women experience period headaches. And there are always ways in which you can make yourself feel better in this situation, too.
So, here are 4 things that you can do to relieve yourself from period headaches:
1. Apply an ice pack on your head
A cool sensation can be quite soothing for headaches. You can take an ice pack and slowly pat it on your head. Try to pace yourself to avoid those chilling sensations. You can also try to lie down with a wet, cool cloth on your head.
2. Dim the lights and relax
Resting your eyes can work wonders when you experience headaches. Try to move away from the screen and draw the curtains. Find yourself a nice, cozy corner and shut your eyes for some time until you can feel the throbbing reduce.
3. Take a deep breath
As you shut your eyes, try to take deep breaths. This will help you relax and calm your mind. If you feel up to it, you can also try some very easy and light stretches. But don’t push yourself too hard.
4. Have our period nutrition drink mix
Period headaches can be caused due to the low levels of magnesium. Our period nutrition drink mix, Uplift, is made of 100% natural ingredients which help restore the lost minerals in your body. You can get your pack right here.
Life would have been so much easier without period symptoms or PMS. But instead of trying to wish them away, we can look at it a little differently. PMS is after all your body’s way of telling you that things are working as they should, and isn’t that always a relief?
We are soon launching something that will help you relax better during the PMS phase and during your period. To know more, watch out for this space!
