Every year in December, one can’t help but look back at the year that was. This year, the act of looking back will truly be unforgettable. One that we’ll tell for years to come, with stories that we will pass down to the next generation.
As we always do, before we get to the warm and fuzzy part of this note, let’s take a quick look at reality as we know it.
This has been one of the strangest years of our lives.
We were locked up in our own homes, separated from family, friends and colleagues. Taken away from hobbies and activities we loved. Travel was reduced to a concept. But (we told you we’d only take a quick look back!) we all have begun to look at the world in a whole new way. Even if it is on a flat screen.
On a day-to-day basis, this year forced us to step up and take charge of ourselves. Care for our homes, create new routines, and find ways to keep ourselves occupied. I bet that this is the year most of us learned our neighbours’ names. On a higher level, it has made us rethink our habits, reevaluate our decisions, and reconsider health in a way we haven’t done before.
Everything is now digitised. Meetings. Birthdays. Anniversaries. Happy Hour. Funerals, even. Our conversations and relationships have deepened, aided by technology.
We’ve also witnessed a unique year when it comes to language. Did you know – the Oxford Dictionary team has failed to come up with a single ‘Word of the Year’ but instead has come up with an entire list called ‘Words of an Unprecedented Year’. These include: bushfires, Covid-19, WFH, and lockdown. Ironically, not on the list: the overused ‘unprecedented’ itself!
For us, at Nua, the beginning stages of the pandemic were undoubtedly full of learning. It not only saw us grow together – as a team and as a family – but also, through two new product launches.
It taught us that hardships are here to stay, but unity among team members and the urge to create something worthwhile for our community drives us to achieve new heights every month.
On behalf of everyone at Nua, we look forward to a new year and we can’t wait to show you what we have up our sleeve – through product and content, and for our community. So… see you in 2021, #NuaWoman, and hopefully we will not see you in 2021, Virus.
