2 Mins read

Our lives seem to take an unknown turn every time PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) sets in. We either experience mood swings or we feel too tired.

But every now and then, we can do a few things for ourselves to relieve PMS

First is habitual factors, such as our daily meal, how much sleep we get, and how often we workout. Then comes those things which we do outside these habits. These tiny activities are like that extra step we should take to ensure our personal menstrual wellness.

These little steps can be something as simple as taking a shower in lukewarm water to applying essential oils

In fact, essential oils can be helpful in taking the edge off or just soothing the mind when we have a lot going on. There are several kinds of essential oils, each with its own unique set of benefits.

Let’s look at 4 types of essential oils that can help us during our PMS:

1. Lavender Oil

One of the most common types of essential oils, lavender is known to promote calmness and wellness. Its unique composition makes it the perfect stimulant that can help enhance the ‘reward sensation’ in the brain. It not only helps improve our Premenstrual or PMS moods but can be beneficial in slowing down our nervous system when we get too anxious.

Did you know: A massage with lavender oil once a week can also help with menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, depression, and pain.

2. Ylang-Ylang Oil

A lot like lavender oil, ylang-ylang oil can also help reduce anxiety while boosting our self-esteem. The oil is particularly beneficial for the mood, as it helps release serotonin. It is also known to be helpful for those who want to overcome depression and stress that we might experience before, during or after periods.

Did you know: Ylang-ylang can be quite helpful in maintaining blood pressure and stabilizing body temperature.

3. Chamomile Oil

This delicately textured essential oil is best known for its ability to sooth muscular tensions. In fact, chamomile oil can be helpful to help reduce menstrual cramps, fatigue, and mood swings caused by Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). It is also highly regarded as a mild tranquilizer which can help with sleeplessness.

Did you know: The chamomile herb which gives us the oil is also popularly used for chamomile tea – a very healthy beverage!

4. Bergamot Oil

Bergamot’s anti-inflammatory properties act as the perfect resource to reduce the sensation of hunger. We are familiar with our sudden need to eat a lot during or before periods. Bergamot oil helps to keep these urges in control so that we do not experience indigestion during periods

Did you know: Applying bergamot oil on your pulse points can help maintain your blood pressure and pulse rate.

Premenstrual Syndrome or PMS (more commonly known as period symptoms) is a part of our lives. As much as it feels a bit troublesome, we can always make sure that through a little help we are able to overcome it.

And we have just the thing for you! So grab a piece of dark chocolate, put on your comfy wear, and find your Balance.
